Prayer is converse with God and/or the intercourse of the soul with God. Prayer may be oral or mental, occasional or constant, ejaculatory or formal. Christians do pray to beseech the Lord and make supplication to Him. As children of God, wanting to be complete in Him, we must learn how to pray for oneself, the nation ad other people.
Once prayers are offered to God, one must believe that God has heard one’s prayer i.e. having the faith just like Jesus. A life without prayer is a powerless life since this is the only weapon available to a Christian to fight during battle. Jesus demonstrated this to us in various ways and in various places in the bible mud ink . He prayed on the mountain (Matt 14:23), in the garden of Gethsemane (Matt 26:36), gave the Lord’s Prayer (Matt 6:9), etc.
Prayers are not limited to a daylight or daybreak alone (Mark 1:35), but likewise it is meant to be our weapon when we are in distress (John 12:27), in the wilderness of life (Luke 5:16), while about to eat, sleep or start a journey (John 17) and even on behalf of other people.
Matt 6:9 sets a standard example of who to pray to: OUR FATHER IN HEAVEN. Prayers could take any patter as stated in the following scriptural passages: Matt 14:23, Mk 1:35, I Peter 5:8 and I Thess 5:17. Prayers have different use though depending on the one offering the prayers.
The question, therefore, are: Why is it necessary to pray? What are the likely consequences of refusing to develop one’s prayer life? What are the causes of persistent decline in Christian’s time of praying to God and what can be done to restore such affected Christians? And lastly, how can one develop the right attitude of praying?
Conclusively, many people have prayed in the past and God answered them virtually immediately. They include Abraham’s servant (Gen 24:10-20); Jacob (Gen 32: 24-30), Samson (Judges 15:18-20); David (II Sam 15:31). Jesus used to pray to God despite being God Himself (God, the Son). He knew the essence of praying and the power in prayers. Shouldn’t we strive to be like Him? We should! You have to start developing your life in order to be complete in Him.
